Why should one join the CCBA?

The CCBA is a non-profit organization supported solely by member dues. Its 2,200+ member attorneys have a continued commitment to serving the legal profession and the community.

Established in 1699, the Association’s purpose is to maintain high standards in the legal profession and provide legal education for Charleston County attorneys. Its goals also include public service and better access to legal services for all citizens in Charleston County. Continuing Legal Education and professional development programs for attorneys are second to none. The CCBA contributes $25 from each member’s dues to Charleston Pro-Bono Legal Services and hundreds of volunteer hours to community service projects each year.

 

How does one join the CCBA?

To join the CCBA, fill out the membership form and send it and your dues to:

What is the cost of joining the CCBA?

Yearly dues for the CCBA are $115 per year. The CCBA fiscal year is January 1 – December 31. Dues are not pro-rated. Your application must be accompanied by a check or money order for the appropriate amount. Once we receive your application and dues, we will send you an email so you can add your contact information and photograph to the website.

 

What are the benefits of joining the CCBA?

There are dozens of benefits to being a member of the Charleston County Bar Association including:

  • Receipt of the quarterly CCBA newsletter
  • Opportunity for participation in CCBA committees
  • A listing in the CCBA Attorney Directory
  • Information on CLEs
  • Opportunity to attend the Annual Meeting (held each February)
  • Opportunity to attend the Annual Holiday Party (held each December)
  • Opportunity to participate in other events
  • Participation in the Mentor Program

 

I let my CCBA membership lapse. Can I be reinstated, and how?

Yes, you may reinstate your Bar membership.  Please fill out the membership form and send it and your dues to:

Do I have to be licensed in SC to join the CCBA?

No.  We do allow law school graduates to join the CCBA pending the results of their Bar exam.

 

If I join the CCBA during the middle of the bar year, will my dues be pro-rated?

No.

 

What types of annual events does the CCBA host?

Each year, the CCBA holds its annual meeting, a spring and holiday cocktail party, several CLEs, and community seminars.

 

Is Continuing Legal Education (CLE) offered by the CCBA? 

Yes.
