Associate Attorney/Paralegal

Full-time paralegal or associate attorney sought for established downtown Charleston Family Law firm. Ideal applicant has excellent organizational skills and is technologically proficient in areas including practice management software (Clio), Microsoft 365, Outlook, Dropbox, and general office technology and procedures. Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with client intake and evaluation
  • Maintaining electronic and physical file systems
  • Communicating with clients, witnesses, and counsel regarding case development
  • Working efficiently and being able to multi-task and understand priorities
  • Preparing requests for medical records, police reports, and other documents
  • Proficient in drafting discovery and discovery responses, review of production and Motions to Compel
  • Drafting client and witness affidavits generally, and in preparation for Temporary Hearings
  • Researching and drafting legal documents and related correspondence
  • Supporting attorneys with administrative tasks in pre-litigation, litigation, and trial-preparation phases

Applicants must have a four-year college degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience. Applicants who are attorneys must have excellent academic credentials and references.  Contract applicants may be considered.  Office is located in downtown Charleston.  Parking is provided.  Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Executive Secretary Wanted for the CCBA

The Charleston County Bar Association seeks a person of integrity to serve as its Executive Secretary to work in carrying out the Bar’s mission to promote ethics and legal education within Charleston County’s legal community and to assist the public through outreach programs and service projects.  The position is part-time with an average of 15 hours per week.  The Executive Secretary gives administrative support to the Executive Committee, working closely with the President, President-Elect, and Secretary-Treasurer.  The duties include managing membership, telephone calls, electronic mail, regular mail, meetings, and errands.  The Executive Secretary attends monthly Executive Committee meetings, seminars, and social events.  The Executive Secretary also works with the Newsletter Editor and Public Relations Chairperson to engage the legal community.  The salary will be negotiable based upon experience.  The start date is October 7, 2019.  A list of duties can be found at the Charleston County Bar website.  Please contact Debra J. Pflug Law firm, located in the Shem Creek area of Mt. Pleasant, is seeking a full-time administrative assistant. The position’s hourly range of $14-$16.

Assisting paralegals with real estate pre-closing process by opening/closing files; drafting correspondence to clients; ordering title work from abstractors; scheduling closings; maintaining closing calendar; preparing conference room for closings.

Answering telephone; filing and maintaining filing system; greeting and communicating effectively with clients; maintaining office; occasional courier duties in absence of office courier; other related duties as required.

To be successful in the position you will need to be at your desk by 8:30am; be pro-active in completing your work by seeking guidance as needed; initiate solutions and ideas; have competency in office software programs such as Word, Excel, Dropbox. Enjoy being part of a team but able to work independently and prioritize tasks.
